Releasing Your Attachment To Diet Culture

Release your attachment to diet culture 💜

I'm sure most of us have tried diets at different points of our lives - diet culture is so deeply embedded within popular culture!

Whether it's a character on a TV show talking about not eating carbs, or a celebrity on a juice fast, or ‘detox’, there are SO many diets out there offering people (particularly women!) a programme that will ‘help them lose weight.’

The problem with these diets is that they don’t take into consideration the whole person. Their history, their relationship with food, past diets, their likes and dislike, their lifestyle, stress levels, gut intolerances etc.

They’re usually not particularly nutritious either, leading to low mood & making it even more difficult to stick to!

Restrictive dieting always ends up with you ditching the diet because you're hungry or you just really miss having some bread or a scoop of ice cream …. Am I right 😉

Then, because you have restricted yourself, you go overboard & all the weight comes back on when you can't sustain the deficit the diet created (there's a post on @awc.wellnesstudios about this!)

The idea that you can control your weight solely by eating is unhealthy - we ALL need some type of exercise to move our lymph and stay healthy PLUS we need to consider all aspects of ourselves- emotional, mental and spiritual well-being ALONGSIDE our desire to lose weight.

Ultimately your weight loss needs to be a LIFESTYLE change & choice! It needs to suit you and your needs, whilst incorporating a balance through well-being, nutrition and exercise.

This is something I work on with my clients and it can feel really hard when you first start.

Many people think you have to cut out whole food groups (carbs/fats), or that you can't eat out and that isn't the case.

I ALWAYS advocate for building eating & self care habits and exercise routines that will support your weight loss goals without going to extremes.

(Cutting out carbs, drinking shakes or eating bars are all extreme)

It starts with deciding what kind of lifestyle you want to lead & then working in a plan that allows that to work in balance with your goals 💗
